A reason why international diversification increases
Worldwide enhancement can be comprehended as the development of a firm Into various nations and topographical areas. This extension offers firms different focal points like the abuse of chances on board, economies of scale, sharing of center skills, and learning. Learning is a key factor of the productive advancement of new capacities. Learning itself is cultivated by assorted encounters. This demonstrates the association with International enhancement, henceforth working in assorted conditions (nations/land locales) Increases the Intensity and recurrence f occasions and Ideas to which a firm is exposed.Anyway, it Is sketchy in the case of learning through differing encounters drives at last to capacities that expansion benefit of a worldwide expanded firm. To survey this inquiry I will accentuate a couple of contentions that help and repudiate this announcement. From one perspective, directors and laborers who have encounters In assorted situations are more beneficial than represent atives who don't have such encounters. This is predominantly on the grounds that these workers have a more extensive scope of encounters and a spot and take care of issues more effectively than representatives with a restricted view.Furthermore, an association that works in a few nations has a wide scope of auxiliaries from that it can learn. These auxiliaries give access to a wide scope of new thoughts and new practices that offer ascent to development and lead to expanded mechanical abilities. Moreover, firms which stay In their local nation just as In their shopping center Industry face comparative dangers and openings and create standard techniques to deal with them. Hence, they have generally restricted encounters and beneficiary strategies and abilities additionally will in general be smaller on the grounds that they face a constrained arrangement of challenges. These constraints won't influence the firm for the time being nevertheless I accept that it diminishes the exhibition of the firm over the long haul. Then again, firms that look to enter a remote market will in general beginning with social close nations from the start. As these organizations become experienced, they start to grow in social inaccessible markets. Therefore, numerous organizations don't face such incredible learning openings since they lean toward social close nations which are like their mother country.Furthermore, firms don't need to be universally expanded to experience learning openings. It is likewise conceivable to gain from outside providers or remote clients. In this way, one vital viewpoint Is the way learning forms are Implemented and lived In associations. This depends, in addition to other things, on how the firm and its auxiliaries are sorted out. A firm that drives its auxiliaries/geological districts/item divisions as a key holding abuses less learning open doors since it deals with its auxiliaries just by money related indicators. In contestant, if a firm deals with i ts auxiliaries as a usable holding it intercedes in the everyday business to take advantage of cooperative energies and learning lucky breaks. Henceforth, cross-fringe learning needs to beat hierarchical compels. That universal differentiated firms face more prospects to learn and grow new abilities that expansion gainfulness however this doesn't infer that they generally beat non worldwide broadened firms. Universal broadened firms need to make settings that encourage and sustain cross-outskirt figuring out how to misuse the different open doors they face in outside nations.

As such, spiritual nourishment is void of earthly possessions and materialist desires. Even though Siddhartha is a pious man, he is influenced by a friend he meets who inspires him with Buddhist philosophies, but despite the wisdom in them, he acknowledges that true spiritual understanding cannot be sought by intellectual understanding. Also, the protagonist is known to immerse himself in a scriptural study of both Buddhist and Hindu scripture (Hermann n.p). There is a similarity between the life of Buddha and that of the protagonist. As such, the author uses a similar analogy to show the hunger for spiritual growth by Siddhartha. In the bible, a man named Abraham had to leave the comfort of his family to an unknown land. Similarly, Siddhartha imitates such an experience in search of spiritual nourishment. The theme of love is pivotal to this story as the protagonist denies himself comfort to please his believer. Self-sacrifice and total devotion to a godlike power is an expression of love. Informal Assessment free essay sample
During a session recently, with a group whom I am relatively still new to, I was informed that all students were on top of all work in a specified unit. Well, although these students had been given their theory input on a certain area, only 60% of them actually were confident in their knowledge. Finding this out during my teaching session, by way of a quiz and discussion, allowed me to adapt my lesson plan for that day and ensure all students leaving at four oââ¬â¢clock were on top of all knowledge and ready for their formal written examination the following week. I have enclosed copies of some informal assessment methods that we are currently using during teaching, as well as evidence of formal methods. References: Radcliff ,C. Comparison Between My Last Duchess Ulysses Regarding Dramatic Monologue Essay Example
Comparison Between My Last Duchess Ulysses Regarding Dramatic Monologue Paper Question : What is a dramatic monologue? Which of the two, in your opinion, is the stronger dramatic monologue in Tennysonââ¬â¢s ââ¬Å"Ulyssesâ⬠or Brownings ââ¬Å"My Last Duchessâ⬠? Answer : Traditionally dramatic monologue is a lyrical poem in the form of speech spoken by a single man. It is dramatic because it begins abruptly and in the development of its thought it takes several sudden turns which impart dramatic dimension to the poem. In a dramatic monologue the single speaker reveals his thoughts in the presence of a single silent listener or some silent listeners. The speaker is not necessarily the poet himself though the speaker often gives out the poets belief and philosophy. The speakers revelation, in fact, leads the readers to probe deep into the psycho-analytical or soul-dissecting. Therefore, a dramatic monologue is a kind of poem which comprises of lyrical strains, abrupt beginning, single speaker, silent listener or listeners, psychological analysis, clues to suggest the presence of the silent listeners and what they say or do. Robert Brownings ââ¬Å"My Last Duchessâ⬠and ââ¬Å"Andrea del Sartoâ⬠, Tennysons ââ¬Å"Ulyssesâ⬠and ââ¬Å"Tithonusâ⬠are famous dramatic monologues. A dramatic monologue usually begins abruptly somewhere at the middle of the event. He beginning of Ulysses is not so sudden and surprising. The opening lines seem to have a tone of introduction : ââ¬Å"It little profits that an idle king â⬠It does not produce a surprising dramatic effect which is traditional for dramatic monologues. On the contrary, ââ¬Å"My Last Duchessâ⬠begins with dramatic suddenness : Thats my last Duchess painted on the wall. â⬠The readers understand that the event has begun earlier. But the poem begins somewhere in the middle of the speech giving a dramatic twist. A single person, Ulysses, speaks throughout the poem. It is understood that some of his old comrades are present around him. Ulysses encourages them in undertaking a new adventure. First, he tells them why he d oes not want to stay at home. Then, he asks them to start the journey. At times, he addresses them as ââ¬Å"My friendsâ⬠and ââ¬Å"Come my friendsâ⬠. He tells them, ââ¬Å"you nd I are old. â⬠These are the clues which lead us to believe that other mariners are present but they do not speak. Telemachus presence is also felt. Tennyson here follows the tradition of allowing one person to speak and keeping others silent. In ââ¬Å"My Last Duchessâ⬠we see the same thing. As the poem progresses, it becomes clear that only a single person speaks. The speaker is the Duke of Ferrara who is talking about his dead Duchess portrait painted by Fra Pandolf. At several points of the poem it becomes evident that there is a listener who remains silent. Later in the poem, we come to know that he is an emissary for the second marriage of the Duke. Throughout the poem he does not talk. But his reactions are revealed through the Dukes speech. For example, the clue to understand the surprise in the emissarys face has been revealed by the Duke himself : ââ¬Å"so not the first/ Are you to turn and ask thus. â⬠We know he does not ask anything but there has been a question in his countenance. Tennyson reveals his hearts desire in ââ¬Å"Ulyssesâ⬠. This is another aspect of dramatic monologue. He says he does not enjoy peaceful life at home, and so, he wants to set out for new adventures. His inner thoughts have been revealed. However, the revelation is very simple and plain. The speaker here is more concerned with external things around him rather than psychological crises which are the essence of a successful dramatic monologue. In this aspect ââ¬Å"My Last Duchessâ⬠also the same as ââ¬Å"Ulyssesâ⬠. Here the Duke while talking about the Duchess reveals his own mind. We understand that he is a possessive husband, a cruel person, a proud aristocrat, a greedy bridegroom but a connoisseur of artworks. He also reveals that the Duchess was an innocent, easy-going lady. These analyses of Dukes temperament are the essence of this dramatic look. It may now concluded that both the poems are fine examples of dramatic monologue though ââ¬Å"Ulyssesâ⬠s beginning is not so startling and it lacks psychological probing. So, from my point of view, ââ¬Å"My Last Duchessâ⬠is more strong dramatic monologue than ââ¬Å"Ulyssesâ⬠.

States considering laws to prevent obesity in America
States considering laws to prevent obesity in America Obesity... overweight... fat. No questions, its one of this nations worst and most costly health problems. But, can government, in its finest we know whats best for you tradition, actually outlaw obesity in America? According to a recent Washington Post article, legislatures in at least 25 states are currently debating more than 140 bills aimed at curbing obesity. New state laws currently under consideration would restrict the sale of soda and candy in public schools, require fast-food chains to post fat and sugar content directly on all menu boards, and even attempt to tax the fat away. According to the Post, six bills proposed by New York State Assemblyman Felix Ortiz (D) would slap hefty taxes on not only fatty foods, but also modern icons of sedentary living movie tickets, video games and DVD rentals. Ortiz estimates his tax laws would haul in over $50 million a year, which New York could use to fund public exercise and nutrition programs. We have focused on smoking; now it is about time we fight obesity, Ortiz told the Post. Over 44 million Americans are now considered obese, with an associated increase in cases of serious and costly diseases, including diabetes, heart disease and kidney failure. As costs to health plans of obesity-driven illnesses soar, the success of anti-smoking legislation passed during the 1990s and the seatbelt laws of the 1970s have lawmakers thinking similar laws could help force Americans to push away from the table. Obviously, civil libertarians and consumer rights groups do not like the idea of legislating eating behavior. Its an individual responsibility issue, states Richard Berman, executive director of the Center for Consumer Freedom in the Post article. If Im going to shorten my own life by eating too much or being too sedentary, that may not be much different than shortening my life by riding a motorcycle without a helmet on. On the other hand, Health and Human Services Secretary Tommy G. Thompson cites the $117 billion spent annually on obesity-related health care when he states, If were really interested in holding down medical costs and improving the health of citizens, we have to do something about obesity. Some insurance industry officials have suggested charging obese persons higher premiums. HHS Secretary Thompson, however, cautioned that doing so could run afoul of federal anti-discrimination laws. The most potentially contentious fat-fighting suggestion mentioned in the Post story came from Eric Topol, chief of cardiology at the Cleveland Clinic. Topols suggestion would offer a federal income tax credit to slender people, while the people ruining our health care economics [the obese] would pay the standard tax. People who are able to be disciplined and lose weight should be rewarded, said Topol.

Reinforcement of Dental Composites by Electrospun Nanofibers Research Proposal
Reinforcement of Dental Composites by Electrospun Nanofibers - Research Proposal Example Our work draws support from the background researches concerned with the application of nanoscaled reinforcing materials and organic-inorganic hybrid nanocomposites synthesized by conventional soft chemistry procedures on various innovative industrial products. The principal look out of the following investigation is also based on the previous studies conducted to understand the intricate mechanisms behind the phenomenon of dissipation of energy that is hypothesized to be one of the definitive factors for hiking the index of fracture toughness in solid composites. (Composites Science and Technology, 2008) Past researches show that this energy dissipating phenomenon implicating increase in the fracture toughness is far more definitive and effect enticing for nanocomposites compared to ordinary composites having micron scaled fibers. In the following investigation we attempt to understand and interpret the reasons associated with mimicking such kind of mechanical strength and structure d toughness after reinforcing the resinous polyacrylate matrices of the dental composites with hyperbranched polymeric nanofibers. ... (Saudi Dental Journal, 2006) Though such research is always critical and is undoubtedly clouded by several other unaccountable factors, like, the inherent clinical design of the prosthesis, deformations of the dental base, climatic wear and tear of the metal supports, conditions leading to accidental damages along with the gender, age and total span of usage of the wearer; the plausible causes arising from the discrepancies in the mechanical index of the denture material itself, was the only object of our interest for pursuing further investigations along relevant lines. Therefore, it is undoubtedly clear that the primary objective of this research is to record and understand the effects of the covalently bonded nanoscaled organic reinforcements on the performance and durability index of the recently used dental composites. By designing composites of polyacrylate resin matrices modified with commercial dendritic polymers, like polyesteramide and polyester, we need to create a variati on from the previous investigations by incorporating electrospun polyamide nanofibers into the system and test their effect on the overall mechanical strength of these composites. EXECUTIVE SUMMARY: The nanofibers will be synthesized by electrospinning three different polymers that are Poly Vinyl Alcohol (PVOH), Poly-L-Lactide Acid (PLLA) and Nylon 6 (Polycaprolactam or Polyamide or PA6) and they are to be used with the Hybrane modified acrylate resin matrix of the composites at different weight percents and particle diameters. The compressive strength, diametric tensile strength, linear shrinkage index and flexural strength will be measured at different concentrations and diameters. The morphology of the

For a girl like me to have a boyfriend in this days is like- ok I have a boyfriend and? But in the 20th century, 50 years ago for my grandmother was really different. She is always telling me story about her life and in one of those story she told me she got married at the age of 13. (I didnââ¬â¢t find that a big deal) because now a days the girls get married in my country at the age of 11 o even 10. She told me ââ¬â be quiet and listen to me. ââ¬â When I got married I didnââ¬â¢t know my husband to be. I met him the same day I was going to marry him. I said ââ¬âwhy? Dai Sijieââ¬â¢s book ââ¬ËBalzac and the Little Chinese Seamstressââ¬â¢ Essay
In Dai Sijieââ¬â¢s book, ââ¬ËBalzac and the Little Chinese Seamstressââ¬â¢, the two main characters are brought together to experience the hardships of re-education but even then they manage to stay ââ¬Ëhopefulââ¬â¢. Dai Sijie focuses on the survival and the power of human spirit and imagination to endure of Luo and the narrator, Ma. The boys stay ââ¬Ëhopefulââ¬â¢ by finding solutions to their problems during the re-education. Luo feels physically tired and so turns back the hands of the clock to get some extra sleep so he can get through the day. The Little Chinese Seamstress tries and cures Luo of his disease even though she doesnââ¬â¢t have the proper medical equipment. Four-Eyes on the other hand continues to try and impress the peasants by risking the chance of getting caught with all the banned books by leaving his door open just to display his trust in the peasants and by hiding away meat and pretending that he doesnââ¬â¢t eat meat to please them. The boys can be viewed as ââ¬Ëhopefulââ¬â¢ in the ways in which they adapt to and find solutions to the hardships of re-education such as manipulating the start of the working day with the alarm clock. The boys confess a few days after getting to the mountain and carrying the buckets of shit up and down the mountain, ââ¬Ëin the end we had changed the position of the hands so many times we had no idea what the time really was.ââ¬â¢ The boys take advantage of the peasantsââ¬â¢ ignorance of technology to cheat the village of their labor. But they are only doing this because of the harshness of re-education that led them to be this physically drained out. They were being forced to turn into cheaters but for them this wasnââ¬â¢t deceiving, it was merely how they believed they could bring their bodies back to normal and start adapting to the change. By saying losing track of ââ¬Ëwhat the time really wasââ¬â¢, Dai Sijie also symbolizes their fear of never returning to their families and leading their old lives. Besides Luo finding a solution to the hard working conditions during the re-education, the Little Chinese Seamstress found a solution to curing Luoââ¬â¢s malaria and stayed ââ¬Ëhopefulââ¬â¢. Although during the time of the re-education, there were no proper medical care and due to that Luo may have suffered from malaria for a long time. On the way to the Little Chinese Seamstressââ¬â¢s house for the oral cinema in her town, another attack struck Luo and when they arrived at, Luo looked really sick so the Little Chinese Seamstress used a natural medicine on him and hoped that it worked. She didnââ¬â¢t panic and act irrationally. The remedy that used was a natural paste made of the leaves of a plant called ââ¬ËBroken-bowl-shards.ââ¬â¢ This shows that the Seamstress believes in nature and tries her luck wherever she can. She says ââ¬ËIn my opinion you canââ¬â¢t believe in them totally, but you canââ¬â¢t deny them either.ââ¬â¢ This just proves that whethe r or not the results are going to be as desired, it is definitely worth a shot. Four-Eyes is a representation of a character who would do anything to escape re-education and his continuous tries are what make him seem ââ¬Ëhopefulââ¬â¢ that one day he will succeed. Ever since he has been living on the mountain, he doesnââ¬â¢t lock the doors of his house. When the readers first hear from him about this he claims that he is ââ¬Ëso anxious to demonstrate his trust in the revolutionary peasants that he never used to lock his doors.ââ¬â¢ This just proves how desperate he is for their trust. He leaves his door unlocked even though he has a hidden suitcase of books that if found, can get him into serious troubles but he is willing to take that risk. He is also abstaining from meat. ââ¬ËHe would spring to his feet, quickly hide the pan in a corner as if it were contraband, and put out a dish of marinated vegetables.ââ¬â¢ This not only portrays his fear, but the use of the word ââ¬Ëcontrabandââ¬â¢ by Dai Sijie is interesting as it brings up other suggestions. Contrabands are illegally smuggled goods and the comparison between the meat and the contraband shows how scared Four-Eyes is. To Four-Eyes, ââ¬Ëeating meat struck him a crime typical of the bourgeois class to which his family belongedââ¬â¢ so he decided to sacrifice eating meat. Four-Eyes stops at nothing to gain his pleasures. This single-mindedness in the face of adversity (when he breaks his glasses and the boys find him trying to carry the rice sacks alone) could be viewed as a form of hopefulness. To conclude, I have to say that the boys need to be credited for having dealt with their situations so optimistically. They only had a ââ¬Ëthree in a thousand chanceââ¬â¢ of returning home but even then they have stayed ââ¬Ëhopefulââ¬â¢ through the novel and took things as they came their way. I believe that the charactersââ¬â¢ main way of staying ââ¬Ëhopefulââ¬â¢ is by finding solutions to the problems and hardships of their life currently during the re-education at the Phoenix Mountain. What the two boys have taken from this experience definitely has been the ability to be independent and solve situations they are faced with and most importantly learnt that success can be achieved by staying ââ¬Ëhopefulââ¬â¢. Also the books and their passion for literature has indeed played a part in this as the books is what has kept them going for this long and they work so hard all day only knowing that later at night they have the book to go back to and relax. Their hope to keep them going through the day is the thought of knowing that this means they can go home to reading. Four-Eyes on the other hand has this obsessive pursuit of freedom and his hope is what is keeping that driving force in him going but in this battle, he has lost his temper and feels agitated as his results are not coming out positive.

The Impact Of Entrepreneurial Characteristics In Pakistan Business Essay - Free Essay Example

The Small and Medium Enterprises (SME) plays a very important role in the success development of any economy. According to the SME policy 2007, SME sector is the backbone of Pakistans Economy. Globally, this sector is the major growing force behind the fastest growing economy of China, in term of contribution to the national GDP, scale of assets, diversification of products and the creation of employment. Donââ¬â¢t waste time! Our writers will create an original "The Impact Of Entrepreneurial Characteristics In Pakistan Business Essay" essay for you Create order Similarly, the role of SME is well acknowledged in the other countries such as Japan Korea, and all other industrialized economies in terms of economic development (Hand Book on Islamic SME Financing Islamic Banking Department, State Bank of Pakistan, 2009). There are some hidden and apparent obstacles in the path of growth of small and medium enterprises in Pakistan as pointed out in the SME Policy development-2007; the poor national performance on the Human Development Index of the UN has its consequences for SMEs in Pakistan. These include inadequate and generic education and insufficient, poorly focused and under-serving training infrastructure. SMEs mostly draw their human resource (including the owners) from either the higher education institutions or the technical training infrastructure, both of which are not attuned to the SME needs nor are they equipped to address them. This situation limits the capacity and capability of SMEs to innovate, The SME sector neither possess es the financial strength nor the collective wisdom to climb its way out of this low equilibrium enterprise activity. In addition to these factors, according to the Hand Book on Islamic SME Financing (2007), political instability, law and order situation, financial constraints, energy crisis, taxation problems, labor issues, lack of coordination and regular information exchange mechanism among institutions are contributing adversely to all the efforts done for the SMEs development. Shabbir Kashif president of the Rawalpindi Chamber of Commers Industry, (2009, Nov) pointed out the approach of the new entrants in the business and as a big cause of their failure, People come to us say we have such amount of money and we are going to invest in that business. But the point is that prior to Investment they dont think about the future of that Business in next few years, what would be the market demand in future? Instead, they imitate the current trends and current demands of the market, which lead them to the failure. In these types of problems and uncertain situations, the entrepreneurs can do allot for the development and success of the SMEs. According to Thompson, L (2004) In todays world of change and uncertainty we need the talent of entrepreneurs more than ever, we need them to start new businesses, we need them to champion the change agenda in establish corporation and the public sector. Simpsin , M., Tuck, N. Bellany, S (2004), Entrepreneurs or owners-managers are individuals and have their own unique characteristics. The previous studies conducted on the Owner characteristics support that Owner characteristics are the important ingredient for the success of a firm like Lumpkin Dess (1996), Ferreira Azevedo. (2007), Smith J.R, Okhomina Mosley (2006). Research Aims Objectives The aim of the research is to investigate empirically the influence of owner characteristics on the SME performance in Pakistan. Owner Characteristics that will be stud ied are related with personal pursuits that are considered the most important characteristics Naldi, Lucia. Nordqvist, Mattias., Sjoberg ,Karin., Wiklund, Johan, (2007), like Innovativeness, Risk Taking, Proactive ness. Significance of the study This study will contribute to the Knowledge base regarding the Owner Characteristics that contribute in the firms performance, According to Bhutta, M., Rana, A. Asad ,U (2008) A major frustration for most policy researchers in the SME area is the virtual non-existence of scientific data on this sector in the country (i.e. Pakistan). Secondly, it will help entrepreneurs to understand their own strengths and potentials, and identify those characteristics that contribute more in the success of a firm. Thirdly, to the policy makers in this sector to identify and polish the existing entrepreneurs and the people who intend to establish new businesses. Problem Statement The impact of entrepreneurs characteristics on firms perform ance: An empirical study conducted on the surgical equipment manufacturing units in vicinity of Sialkot, Pakistan. Research Question What is the impact of entrepreneurial characteristics like innovativeness, proactive-ness, risk taking, on the firms performance? Literature review As cited by the Bhutta et al (2008), Entrepreneurship is the act of being an entrepreneur which is a French word meaning one who undertakes an endeavor. Entrepreneurs assemble resources including innovations, finance and business acumen in an effort to transform innovations into economic goods. This may result in new organizations or may be part of revitalizing mature organizations in response to a perceived opportunity. The most obvious form of entrepreneurship is that of starting new businesses; however, in recent years, the term has been extended to include social and political forms of entrepreneurial activity. When entrepreneurship is describing activities within a firm or large organizatio n it is referred to as intra-preneurship and may include corporate venturing, when large entities start spin-off organizations. Whereas according to Lumpkin, G. T. Dess, G. G. (1996) the term Entrepreneurial orientation means the organizational process, methods and styles that firms use to act entrepreneurially. Entrepreneurs Characteristics and Firms Performance Entrepreneurial characteristic is an independent variable in our study. Pointing out the importance of the owner characteristics regarding the firms success and good performance. Ferreira Azevedo (2007, p. 15) commented that the firms which grow more, are those which are entrepreneurially oriented that detect opportunities and obtain an advantage when searching for those opportunities. However, not all firms search for opportunities, a possible explanation could the entrepreneurs attitude, this is, the desire to grow or not. In the previous literature the ownership characteristics has been defined differently by the researchers. According to Lumpkin Dess (1996) Efforts have served to point out the various dimensions of the entrepreneurial process; they have not led to any widely held consensus regarding how to characterize entrepreneurship. This lack of consensus has impeded progress for researchers towards building and testing a broader theory of entrepreneurship and has made it especially, difficult for them to investigate the relationship of entrepreneurship to performance. As evidenced by the previous literature, the researchers have identified different ownership characteristics that influence the success and performance of an organization. These characteristics are autonomy, innovativeness, risk taking, proactiveness, (Ferreira Azevedo, 2007 Keh , H.., Nguyen, T. Ng, H 2007), competitiveness, aggressiveness, (Hughes et al. 2007 Lumpkin Dess, 1996). Smith, Okhomina Mosly (2006) took psychological traits e.g. need for achievement, internal locus of control , tolerance for ambiguity and risk taking propensity, and social factors such as education, a supportive environment the researchers i.e. Smith , J. R. Mosley , Alisa L (2006) also argued that personality traits viewed alone are inappropriate to explain the phenomenon of entrepreneurship. According to Bhutta et al (2008) There is dearth of knowledge in Pakistan on this sector ( S.M.E) further more he studied the owner characteristics/ orientation like education , media-related habits , use of information technology , number of investor and generation in the business (and found a positive relation ) with the health of the firm. In study of ORegan, Sims Ghobadian (2005) presented the relationship between ownership, decision making and employee deployment and the performance of the firm. Their findings showed that ownership profile is key factor in the success of any SME. As cited by Ferreira Azevedo (2007) Covin Slevin (1991) supported Miller point of view by referring that organizations a nd not only individuals, can have entrepreneurially. They also use defend, use of risk taking innovativeness and proactiveness, as the relevant dimensions of the entrepreneurship. Nevertheless refer to this as a type of behavior labeled as entrepreneur posture. Also cited, Miller (1983), the concept of Entrepreneur orientation was seen as a combination of three dimensions. Innovativeness: is concerned with supporting and encouraging new ideas experimentation and creativity likely to result in new products, services or processes (Miller and Friesen, 1982 and Yusuf, A. 2002). Risk Taking: Measuring the extent to which individuals differ in their willingness to take risk is contentious (Lumpkin and Dess, 1996). Proactive ness: is concerned with first mover and other actions aimed at seeking to secure and protect market share and with the forward looking perspective reflected in action taken anticipation of future demand (Lumpkin and Dess, 1996, Ferreira et al, 2007). In thi s paper the focus of the study is on the owners characteristics like innovativeness, risk taking behavior and proactiveness (Naldi, et al. , 2007), an important role as firms which grow better , have the tendency to develop an EO supported by proactiveness, innovativeness and risk taking .(Ferreira and Azevedo,2007, p.15) (Yusuf A., 2002). Firms Performance and Performance Measures: It is a Dependent variable in the study by the firms performance it means that the performance and success of the firm. O Regan et al. (2005) argued that obtaining measures of performance for SMEs was notoriously difficult. He cited, Laitinen in 2002 suggested that performance can be defined as the ability of an object to produce results in a dimension determined a priori, in relation to a target. He also suggested that the previous studies proved the use of subjective self reporting measures of performance as most of the entrepreneurs avoid/hesitate providing factual or objective figures of their firms performance can be examined both objectively and subjectively (Lumpkin Dess, 1996). Objective examination usually includes comparing firm performance with hard financial measures, whereas subjective examination can be related to more personal issues. In this study, the term subjective measures refers to self-reported measures (Yusuf , 2002). Furthermore, he utilized six items to measure the performance construct , three of these items were profitability indicators , (return of sales, return on investment, return on assets), the other three items were growth indicators (growth in sales, growth in profit and growth in employment). Respondents were asked to indicate how satisfied they are with the performance of their firm and vice a versa. Competitors along each of the six performance measures at a five point Likert scale from much unsatisfied one to very much satisfy were used for that purpose (Yusuf, 2002). Despite the large area of amount of research in the area of performance, no consensus has emerged on appropriate measure (Yusuf, 2002) he further cited the previous work that Performance is multifaceted in nature. This is thought to be necessary because entrepreneurial activity at times leads to different outcomes on different performance indicators so it is suggested that performance measure should include both growth and performance (Wiklund, 1991) regarding the factuality of the objective measures. Bhutta et al, (2008) Yusuf, (2002) argued that objective measures are accurate but the problem is that the respondents are not willing to provide i.e. they hesitate to provide actual figures. On the basis of the above literature review, in this study the performance is operationalised and adopted from Naldis (2007) work, which is based on the approach advocated by (Wiklund, 1991) and also suggested by Yusuf, ( 2002) in above literature review. They operationalized the performance into four dimensions Net profit (i.e. sales operational cost), Growth of the companies value, cash flow, development of sales. They asked the questions to the respondents in self perceived and subjective manner. For instance, the researcher asked, I want to know if you think that your outcome during the past three years has been better, worse or equal to that of other companies in your industry (5 point Likert scale ranging from much worse to m uch better was used). Theoretical Framework Firms Performance Entrepreneur Characteristics Innovativeness Risk taking Pro activeness Adoptability Net profit (i.e. sales operational cost) Growth of the companys value, Cash flow Development of sales Hypothesis Development Owner Characteristics and SME Performance According to Keh, et al. (2007, p.596), the factual evidences prove that there is positive correlation between EO (Entrepreneurial Orientation) and FP (Firm Performance). On the basis of above finding a hypothesis is generated that Owner characteristics have positive impact on the firms performance. H1: Owner characteristics have positive impact on the firms performance. Innovativeness and performance According to Susan, et al, (2005), innovativeness, competitiveness effect economic financial results and statistically significant and moderate in strength, Innovativeness is also an important factor in entrepreneurial orie ntation (Salvou Lioukas, 2003). H2: Innovativeness has a positive impact on the Firms performance. Risk taking and performance Naldi et al (2007), argued that family firms take risks but to lesser extent than do non family firms. Naldi cited, Rauch et al, 2004 found that the risk taking dimension is positively related to performance, even if significantly smaller than other aspects of Entrepreneur Orientation. H3: Risk taking is positively related to the firms performance. Proactiveness and Performance Proactiveness, an emphasis in the persistence and creativity to overcome obstacles (Ferreira, et al, 2007) H4: Proactiveness of the entrepreneur is positively related with Firms Performance. Research Methodology a) Research design Variables: Dependent Variables: In this study Firm Performance was a dependent variable. Independent Variable: Entrepreneurs Characteristics was independent variable. Type of investigation The type of investigation was co relational in nature, with minimal interferenceÃâà in the normal course of work or routine tasks. The study was conducted in the natural environment of the organization. Self administered questionnaires were distributed among the owners / partners of the manufacturing units. Unit of Analysis The data was collected from individual Entrepreneur or partner of surgical equipment manufacturing firm. So unit of analysis in this investigation was Entrepreneur or partner (individual). Sample The sample for data collection consisted of 115 entrepreneurs / partners, contacted randomly from the surgical equipment manufacturing units situated in the vicinity of Sialkot. b) Hypothesis development: This research was a hypothetical testing by type. Seven hypothesis were developed through extensive literature review in the literature review section of this report. H1: Owner Characteristics are positively related to firm performance. H2: Innovativeness has a posit ive impact on the Firms performance. H3: Risk taking is positively related to the firms performance. H4: Proactiveness of the entrepreneur is positively related with Firms Performance. Data collection tool Self administered questionnaire was used to collect first hand data from the respondents (owner / partner). Questionnaire was developed after extensive literature review. The different sections of the questionnaire were derived from Keh et al.(2007) , Bhutta et al.(2008) Naldi et al.(2007)(See Appendix I ) Questionnaire consisted of a cover letter, and five sections ranging from A to E. Section A was about Personal Information , Generation in business, education levels Technology adoptability, while the sections B consisted of questions regarding Innovativeness , Proactiveness Risk taking where as Section C consisted of four questions regarding firms performance. Measurement The entrepreneurial characteristics Innovativeness, risk taking, proactiveness fir ms performance were measured on 5 point Likert scale. Where ranking started from 1= strongly disagree to 5= strongly agree , Innovativeness, Proactiveness, Risk Taking, while responses to the Firm Performance questions ranged from 1=Much Worse to 5=Much better. Surgical Instruments manufacturing Industry in the sialkot area is selected in this study. According to Board of Investment Govt. of Pakistan report on Pakistan Light Engineering Sector, among these units about 230 surgical units are located in Sialkot District. In this study 50% of the respondents i.e ownwers or partners were selected randomly of these 230 firms as a sample. Questionnaire was adapted from Yusuf (2002), Naldi, et al. (2007), Bhutta et al. (2008) Ferreira, et al. (2007). Questionnaire was distributed personally to the Owner/ Active Partners.

Essay on The Next Depression - 1435 Words
The Next Depression Fast money, that is what a large percentage of Investors want. We are in the midst of the largest bull market ever, and the greatest financial expansion in history. What goes up must come down, right? This fundamental rule seems to not apply in todayââ¬â¢s fast paced economy. This remarkable wealth-making machine seems unstoppable, but is it? One cannot help but be reminded of the twenties and similarities between these two decades. Investor Sentiment is at all time highs. Interest rates are low, and all seems fine. This scenario determined that the American economy was vastly dependant on high investment or luxury spending of the rich. Carbonated drinks Essay Example For Students
Carbonated drinks Essay Some nutrition scientists attribute the increase in obesity in the U.S. to the corresponding increase in soft drink consumption that occurred between 1977 and 1997. A few would go one step further and link the increase in obesity to the fact thatin the 1980smost soft drink, fruit punch, and snack manufacturers switched from refined cane sugar to corn sweeteners. This school of thought relies on preliminary research suggesting that high-fructose corn syrup is metabolized differently than other sugars with the potential for causing more adverse health effects. A new study of young and middle-aged women found that those who drank the most sugar-sweetened beverages (i.e., with high-fructose corn syrup) showed greater weight gain and an increased risk of type 2 diabetes. The findings came from the more than 51,000 women who were drawn from a much larger research project called the Nurses Health Study. All had filled out questionnaires about their dietary habits and health information at three-year intervals during the 1990s. The study, conducted by the Harvard research team led by Matthias B. Schulze, DrPH, was published last month in the Journal of the American Medical Association. It was funded by the National Institutes of Health. No difference in weight gain was reported by the women who did not change their consumption of soft drinks and fruit punch. But the highest weight gain was among those who had increased their sugar-sweetened beverage consumption from one or fewer drinks a week to one or more drinks per day. Though these soft drinks have plenty of calories, they do not make a person feel full, according to Dr. Schulze and colleagues. The smallest weight gain was reported by women who decreased their intake. The incidence of type 2 diabetes increased among the women who consumed one or more sugar-sweetened soft drinks per day, compared with those who drank less than one a month. Those who had increased their intake of fruit punch gained more weight than those who decreased their consumption. Schulze and colleagues speculate that the larger weight gain and higher risk of type 2 diabetes shown among those with high intake of sugar-sweetened beverages is due to excessive calories. Additionally, the researchers pointed out that the high-fructose corn syrup in these soft drinks becomes rapidly absorbable sugars. This raises the insulin drastically, putting stress on the insulin-producing cells of the pancreas. The researchers explained the difference between fruit juice and fruit punch. The latter contains large amounts of added high-fructose corn syrup and only a small amount of fruit juice. Fruit juice consumption was not associated with diabetes risk in our study, which suggests that naturally occurring sugars in beverages may have different metabolic effects than added sugars. The women who drank the most sugary drinks tended to consume more calories overall, to be less physically, active and to smoke more.

Sainsburys communication methods Essay Example
Sainsburys communication methods Paper People working in different functional areas have to communicate with each other in order to achieve the same objectives but they also need to communicate with other range of individuals and organisations, including their customers, competitors and their suppliers as well as their own employees. Internal communication is communication that takes place within an organisation, while external communication takes place between the organisation and the people outside the business. All large businesses use information communication technology (ICT) to communicate internally and externally. ICT is any equipment or interconnected system of equipment that support all forms of technology used to create, store, manipulate, manage, move, display, switch, interchange, transmit or receive information in its various forms. This has had a major effect on the way communication takes place in the business because they help to play an important role in the effectiveness of communication. The main methods of ICT Sainsbury uses externally Face to face: Sainsbury sets up a customer service desk which deals with customers enquiries and complaints E-mail: This is used to communicate with the customers who enquire about information on Sainsbury and updates on the latest events at Sainsburys Telephone: Sainsbury also use this to communicate with the customers who also seek for information regarding products, etc Interviews: Sainsbury sometimes interview with someone outside the organisation who may be interested in something Sainsbury has done, e. g. press, radio or television Business letters: Sainsbury use business letters to make arrangements without the need for parties to meet. EFT is safe, secure, efficient, and less expensive than paper check payments and collections. (This also concerns the banks and credit control agencies) The main methods of internal communication Sainsbury uses Face to face: Members of the staff communicate with each other sometimes when they are working together as a team or when they are seeking information E-mail: This is used to forward any attachments to other members of the staff E. g. From finance function to HR function E-mail is much quicker, especially if sent overseas, and can be sent to more people at one time than regular methods Telephone: This is to pass on information to other staff or enquire about something concerning the company Meetings: This is used with the senior management such as the store, deputy and department managers. Meetings are also held with the staff. Senior management meeting usually takes place monthly and staff meetings held weekly. Meetings can save a lot of time and can get feedback from the people at the meeting immediately. It also saves time on having to discuss things individually. Agendas and minutes can be written on word processor which then can be sent by e-mail or internet. Electronic point of sale: This is where the customers pay for their goods, the tills are connected to the computer storing the stock database, when an item is sold its barcode is scanned and the product details including price will appear on the screen, after an item is sold the stock level of the item is automatically decreased Paging devices: Sainsburys staffs uses a small electronic device which lets a person know when they are in need of contact Bulletin boards/ office displays: Messages are put out on notice boards to note other members of staff of any recent news or event taking place e. g. Office party Display product development: This is where people can see and comment on the scheme, this gives them the staff the chance to put their views across Electronic data interchange: This is a network link that allows Sainsbury to pay people within the company electronically without the need for invoices and cheques, this reduces time, paperwork and costs so this method can be use internally and externally.
